MEET MISS LOIS
Early Childhood Consultant, Educator, Author
Approximately 18 years ago, while looking for the "perfect" Pre-School for her son, Lois Wachtel began an unscheduled journey into the world of Early Childhood that would eventually change her life forever. Having earned a BA in Public Speaking and Journalism, Lois had little knowledge of what to expect in a Pre-School classroom. In spite of this lack of book knowledge, she questioned the elephants that looked the same in both the 2 year old classroom and the 4 year old classroom... she wondered why children's names were written using all capital letters... and she was a bit overwhelmed at the use of the word "don't" by several teachers.
Thus began her course of study, and the rest, as they say, is history. After returning to school to learn everything she could about Early Childhood, Miss Lois was an Early Childhood Director for 16 years and during the last 5 of those years, she was also the Pre-K teacher. During this time, she began her climb of the Creative Beginning Steps' ladder, without even being aware of it. In June 2008, Lois left the classroom and officially formed Creative Beginning Steps' Training Depot for the purpose of presenting quality, interactive, and fun workshops for Early Childhood professionals.
Her climb up the ladder has gained Miss Lois the nick-name Squish-Squash Lady, and the combination of her knowledge and personality is helping to spread the CBS name in a positive manner. Lois is the author of 2 Early Childhood Books, Creative Beginning Steps to Reading and Creative Beginning Steps to Art. In addition, she teaches the 40 hour courses at PBCC in Southern Florida, where, in 2009, she was named Adjunct Professor of the Year. She also reads to individual children as part of the Budding Reader's Program. When Lois has spare time, she likes to read and cruise!
Please feel free to contact Lois directly at beginningsteps@bellsouth.net for information on attending, or scheduling, a Creative Beginning Steps workshop in your school or area! The climb up the CBS ladder is fun, as Lois creatively encourages you to look at life in your classroom "through the eyes of a child." |
