Created by Lois Wachtel, AKA Miss Lois, Creative Beginning Steps is a new, innovative program, which began when Lois began to look at life through the eyes of her own 3 year old child, Adam [he is now 19 years old!]. When looking for a pre-school for Adam, Lois noticed only upper case letters, art projects that all looked similar, and letter charts that were too high for little children to use. Something did not seem "right."
It took many years for Miss Lois to realize what this "something" was, and her questions led her to more questions. Eventually these answers formed what is now called Creative Beginning Steps. In addition to teaching Creative Beginning Steps everyday in her pre-k classroom, Lois presents Creative Beginning Steps' workshops, all of which are open-ended, hands-on, and FUN! The steps on the Creative Beginning Steps ladder are: reading, art, numbers, science, music, and movement. What began primarily as a program to teach pre-school children to read has expanded to include an entire curriculum.
So, whether you want some creative ideas on teaching children to read, count to 10, have fun in open-ended centers, or paint with bubbles and balloons, Creative Beginning Steps has something for YOU!
